Upon his discharge from the Navy, he attended the University of Louisiana at Lafayette where he earned a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Statistic in 1970, and a Master's Degree in Computer Science in 1977. Curtis was a math teacher at New Iberia Senior High from 1970 through 1979. He was also a college professor at South Louisiana Community College from 2001 through 2014. Curtis retired in December, 2014.

He died ‎30 JUN 1998, ‎aged about 86, in New Iberia, Louisiana. Note:  Nat Oubre was a master craftsman and retired from the construction industry in 1979 after more than 50 years, the last 27 years with the O.J. Oubre Lumber and Building Co. where he supervised the cons truction division.
